SIL Housing Options We Can Help You Find and Compare

Supported Independent Living refers to the support workers who assist participants with daily tasks in the home, rather than the housing itself. These supports can be delivered across a range of living arrangements depending on the participant's needs and preferences.

The most common SIL arrangement. Participants live with other NDIS participants in a shared home and receive support from staff with everyday tasks such as cooking, personal care and daily routines. Support may be available during the day, overnight, or around the clock, depending on the household’s needs.
Some participants live in SDA, which is housing specifically designed for people with very high support needs or significant functional impairment. SDA funding covers the specialised property, while SIL funding covers the support workers who assist participants with daily tasks in the home.
Participants may receive SIL support in a standard rental property. Depending on the participant’s needs, this may involve living with others or receiving individualised support in their own rental home.
Some participants receive SIL supports while living in a home they own. Support workers assist with daily tasks and routines to help the participant live as independently as possible.

Yes. You should already have SIL funding in your NDIS plan before contacting Care Decisions. If SIL funding has not yet been approved, speak with your Support Coordinator or the NDIA about the next steps.

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) funds the physical home itself, specifically for participants who require highly modified or specialised housing. While they are separate supports, they can be used together.
